Small Business Owners Prioritize Stability Over Rapid Growth
A new study by business coach Mosongo Moukwa reveals that small business owners are more concerned with survival and stability than aggressive expansion. Conducted over two years with 60 businesses across the United States, the research challenges traditional economic assumptions about business growth.
The study found that small business owners prioritize financial sustainability and control. Most businesses surveyed had between 5 and 15 employees, with owners focusing more on long-term survival than rapid growth. This approach comes amid challenging economic conditions, where 20% of small businesses fail in their first year and nearly half close within five years.
"Small businesses are not just chasing profits," Moukwa explained. "They're seeking resilience and stability in an unpredictable economic landscape." The research suggests that policymakers and financial institutions should rethink their support strategies, focusing on helping businesses survive rather than pushing for quick expansion.
The study recommends developing resources and policies that address the unique challenges small businesses face, including adapting to economic uncertainties like inflation and labor shortages while maintaining sustainable practices.
